UPDATE: Tenzing is now operating as Pivotree, a global commerce and information management services firm.

The unprecedented Oracle Commerce to AWS migration maximized performance, resulted in 30% savings on hosting fees and launched DXL’s long-term cloud strategy.

Destination XL Group Inc., the largest omni-channel specialty retailer of big & tall men’s apparel, selected Tenzing to migrate their Oracle Commerce platform to Amazon Web Services (AWS) just twelve weeks before the holiday season — and their bold decision has paid off.

The project’s successful completion not only resolved sporadic site performance issues that were sure to cost DXL over the holidays, it ushered in a new era of cloud-based capabilities that leadership has been eager to utilize for years. DXL has long understood that a move to the cloud was necessary to achieve long-term business development and marketing goals.

Selecting Tenzing for the migration project came with the discovery that it was the only managed services company offering a tested solution for optimizing Oracle Commerce on AWS. Upon realizing the strategic power this solution could offer, Tenzing had invested heavily in research & development and successfully deployed and tested Oracle Commerce on AWS in 2016.

Tenzing’s managed service experts partnered with DXL’s team to ensure that every hour of every day was maximized. Chris Boyke, Director of Oracle Commerce at Tenzing, is quick to credit team chemistry and knowledge sharing as the key to their success – “The level of collaboration on both ends was amazing. Every project comes with unforeseen challenges and new learning, even for Tenzing, but the team stepped up and showed their level of expertise.”

The cross-org team also included the newly-appointed Director of Digital Architecture at DXL, Dasarathy Ponnappan, who was impressed with the smooth collaboration on both sides. As he recalls, “Tenzing was a true partner. They had a very clear plan but were also pragmatic enough to be flexible when needed without causing setbacks. They always made us aware of potential problems in advance, and when unforeseen obstacles did arise, they were quick to find creative solutions.”

After 12 weeks of implementation and multiple successful releases, the full migration was completed right on time in early November. Ponnappan stated, “Thanks to Tenzing, we felt very confident going into Black Friday and Cyber Monday. With AWS as our hosting solution, we easily scaled up the environment as needed, then scaled it back down when the holiday rush was over. Throughout the whole season, Tenzing closely monitored our site during all peak traffic loads to ensure it was up and performing without a hitch.”

DXL’s success story is a sign of good health for Tenzing’s long-term strategy – specializing in customized solutions for Oracle Commerce and providing private and public hosting for eCommerce organizations. Not only is Tenzing now one of the largest managed service providers for Oracle Commerce, but it is also the only organization in the world that offers running and optimizing Oracle Commerce in either a private, public, or hybrid cloud model.

Tenzing will be hosting a webinar on the 3 Reasons to Take Your Oracle Commerce to the Cloud where DXL will share their experience of migrating their Oracle Commerce website to AWS cloud mere weeks before the holidays. You can join the discussion here.
